How to Celebrate Valentines Day in Kelowna

It’s that time of year again. Roses are double the cost, every restaurant is booked up, and somewhere amidst the commercialization, love is in the air. That’s right, it’s Valentine’s Day!

Originally named Saint Valentine’s Day, this romantic holiday is historically held on February 14th. Its actual roots are found in European religious doctrines and the day didn’t become the celebration of love, as we know it to be today, until the 18th-century. Since then, handwritten love notes have given way to greeting cards, and keys (a romantic symbol and invitation to unlock the giver’s heart) have become roses, chocolates, and other various gifts.

February 12th – Planet Luv – Valentine’s Mixer

If you’re single this Valentine’s Day and looking to meet someone, you can always try the Valentine’s Mixer from Planet Luv. Hosted at the Lake City Casino on Water Street, the event runs from 7:30pm – Midnight and features ice breaker games and events and a fun interactive atmosphere. Get tickets here.

February 13th – 3rd Annual Valentine’s Masquerade

Fancy dancing the night away while raising money for a good cause? The Wish Come True Society is hosting their 3rd Annual Valentine’s Masquerade at the Rutland Centennial Hall. Featuring live music, a cash bar, and raffle prizes, the event also raises funds towards a children’s respite/hospice house in Kelowna. Tickets available at the door.

February 13th – Okanagan Symphony Orchestra, Shakespeare in Love

If a classical evening is more your cup of tea, you can head to the Kelowna Community Theatre and watch a performance of Shakespeare in Love. Performed by the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra, the event starts at 8pm. Tickets available at the Kelowna Actor’s Studio box office.

February 14th – St. Valentine’s Gala Dinner & Dance

The Kelowna Canadian Italian Club presents its signature Dinner and Dance event at the Immaculate Conception Church Hall at 5:30pm. Including, Prizes, a raffle, live music, and excellent food, this event also raises money for the Children’s Hospital. Find where you can buy tickets here.

February 14th – Love & Laugh 2015

If laughter is more your thing, the Laugh and Dine event at McCurdy Bowl should be just up your alley. Tickets are $99.00 per couple and include a three-course dinner along with stand up comedy by Tim Nutt. Tickets available at the venue.
