Okanagan Summer: To-Do List Part 2

Tomorrow is the final draw for the McKinley Beach Would You Rather contest. If you haven’t entered yet, there’s still time. Head over to the McKinley Beach Facebook page and comment on this week’s Would You Rather post. You’ll be entered to win a $75 gift card to Micro Bar Bites, downtown Kelowna.

This week’s Would You Rather question asks if you’d prefer to explore new heights while rock climbing or take your boat for a cruise? The most frequent answer throughout this contest has been ‘both!’ This week’s blog highlights where you can find the best of both worlds here in Kelowna.

CLIMBING

Thanks to the mountainous features of the Okanagan Valley, there are a number of climbing adventures to accommodate all experience levels. Soon climbers will be able to scale the granite cliffs at the McKinley Beach community. Until then we have a few suggestions for climbing enthusiasts in the area.

Skaha Bluffs – Located on the other side of Penticton, the Skaha Bluffs are a vast collection of climbing routes that will challenge all levels. If you’re new to climbing, looking to learn, or want to find the best routes, you can always contact Skaha Rock Adventures and join a guided tour.

Kelowna Rock Climbing and Bouldering– This online community is a great source of information for climbers looking to explore the rocky heights of the Kelowna area. The site is populated and maintained by local climbers and features maps, directions, and climbing tips.

Beyond the Crux Climbing Gym– Whether you want to hone your climbing skills or start from scratch, the Crux is an indoor climbing facility with excellent training and workout programs for all ages. They teach after school programs and different experience levels while ensuring safety and fun for all.

BOATING

If heights aren’t your thing, you can always hit the water in style. Stretching an epic 135 kilometers in length, the Okanagan Lake is a boaters paradise with hidden coves, cliff diving, and quiet cruising areas aplenty. McKinley Beach will feature a private 92 slip marina for residents that will ensure safety and ease of access for boats. Until then, here are a couple of helpful tips for those wanting to cruise the lake this summer.

Kelowna Downtown Marina – Due to recent improvements, boaters can now secure temporary moorage at the new downtown dock that includes hourly, daily, and weekly rates along with a fueling station allowing you to dock your boat and visit the downtown core for a spot of lunch.

Sunwave Boat Rentals – If you don’t own a boat but want to explore the lake, you can always rent a boat from Sunwave Boat Rentals. Sunwave operates on a valet service and will deliver your desired watercraft to you at various locations along the lake. The rental rates are very reasonable and they also offer rental specials throughout the summer months.

For three weeks now, we’ve been asking Okanagan residents to make the choice between different amenities that will be available as part of the new McKinley Beach community. But if we’re being truthful, you shouldn’t have to compromise or choose ‘this lifestyle’ or ‘that lifestyle’.

At McKinley Beach, we believe you should be able to do it all. So go ahead . . . Live your true life story!
