The Okanagan Fall To-Do List
With the nights getting darker, the temperature has begun to drop, and many people are probably already missing the summer heat. Fear not! There are still plenty of things to do in the Okanagan throughout the Fall seasons. Here are some suggestions from the McKinley Beach crew:
The McMillan Farm has always hosted activities throughout the year for all ages. Their best-known event is the Pumpkin Patch which runs from Thanksgiving weekend to Halloween. The farm opens to the public during this time and offers a corn maze, hayrides, a hay maze, apple slingshot, a petting farm, pumpkins, and much more. Check the site for hours of operation.
On Saturday October 25th, the Kelowna downtown association will be presenting the Small Shop Saturday event. This event will showcase the small businesses downtown and includes demonstrations, prizes, food, and, of course, shopping. Visit the site for a guide to all the businesses that are taking part and be sure to drop in on the McKinley Beach Discovery Centre on Water St!
McKinley Beach promotes a well-rounded and healthy lifestyle. Like-minded individuals should check out the Kelowna Wellness Fair taking place October 25th – 26th at the Parkinson Rec Centre. The annual fair showcases health and wellness products and services through a wide variety of vendors and service providers.
The local arenas have now posted their public skating times for the Fall season including the open date for the outdoor skating arena at Stuart Park. Skating is great fun to do alone or with friends and family and is a great source of exercise. Local arenas that offer public skating include the Capital News Centre, Stuart Park, and Memorial Arena.
5) Talented Kelowna Finale – Kelowna’s Premier Talent Competition
Creative Okanagan presents the Talented Kelowna Finale. It’s like Canada’s Got Talent but with some amazing local artists that are competing for $8000.00 in cash and prizes! Check out the finale showcase at Freddy’s Brewpub on October 26th.
If you’re looking to get in the Halloween spirit (no pun intended), the Creekside Theatre is presenting a 3-act performance of Dracula from October 31st through to November 8th. You can get tickets at the door or through the theatre box office.
If you feel like partying this Halloween, check out the Okanagan Roller Derby Association Halloween Costume Party. Taking place at the Laurel Packing House on November 1st, this event has music, dancing, a costume contest, candy, drinks, and all sorts of other Halloween fun!
8) Just for Laughs
Everyone likes to laugh! And if you don’t, then you have some cause for concern. Check out the Just for Laughs 2014 Comedy Tour at the Kelowna Community Theatre on November 12th. The Canadian Tour will feature some of the biggest and brightest names in comedy. Go ahead, have a giggle!
9) Hot Holiday Homes
This annual event, taking place on November 15th, is a guided tour of six seasonally decorated, privately owned, homes. Decorated by local designers, the tour is meant to inspire holiday decoration themes and features artisans, tastings, and entertainment along the way. The event normally sells out so be sure to get tickets early.
10 ) Kelowna Rockets
Hockey fans rejoice! There are a number of home games running up to the Christmas season so be sure to support our local Kelowna Rockets as they face off against Lethbridge, Tri-City, and Victoria this Fall.
